Choosing the Right System
Framed & Semi-Frameless (Light Glass)
Light glass systems that are framed or semi-frameless feature specialty aluminum extrusions that interlock to create a near water-tight seal.
Best suited for:
- Bathrooms used heavily by small children
- Smaller shower stalls where water retention is critical
- High turnover rentals or situations where the door will take abuse
- Budget-conscious projects without sacrificing quality
Bottom line: Extremely durable with the best water retention of any system type.
Frameless & Semi-Frameless Pivots
Frameless systems and semi-frameless curb-to-header pivots (3/8" heavy glass) are extremely durable, but because they feature exposed glass almost exclusively, they do not have the same water retention capacity as their framed counterparts.
Semi-frameless pivots: Not a value alternative, but the best structural choice for certain freestanding openings—combining the elegance of heavy glass with minimal framing.
Water retention can be enhanced with drip sweeps, strike and hinge seals, acrylic jambs, and extruded thresholds—but even with all of these, it will not match a fully framed system. This is by design: you are choosing that gorgeous, all-glass look.
Best suited for:
- Large and deep shower stalls
- Spaces where aesthetics are the top priority
- Modern, luxury bathroom designs
Bottom line: Can work in any setting, but it is important to be aware of the difference in water retention when making your choice.
